Mulberry is a label best known for their leather accessories such as their handbags and shoes. Mulberry sells products such as women’s bags, men’s bags, purses, wallets, accessories, shoes and items for work and travel such as agendas, planners, luggage, briefcases, holdalls carrying accessories for Apple products such as the Ipod and macbook as well as other brands of notebooks. Background

Mulberry was founded in 1971 by Roger Saul and his mother, Joan. The company was founded after Saul received a gift of 50 pounds of sterling from his mother. Saul’s first products included his own leather chokers and belts designs. They were first sold to shops in Biba. The began by producing their leather accessories. In 1974, Mulberry Ltd. was formed. Mulberry opened its first factory in 1973 in Chilcompton, bath, England and set up a wholesale operation in Australia. In 1978, Mulberry signed a three year contract with Sisheido Japan and introduced their first ready-to-wear women’s clothing line. Mulberry’s first men’s shoe collection was introduced in 1982 in a shop in Paris. The men’s ready-to-wear line was introduced in 1985 and the men’s toiletry line was launched in 1989. Home furnishings were introduced in 1991 and was closely followed by the opening of shops in Tanagawa and Hankyu Osaka, Japan. A shop in Russia was opened in 1992. In the year 2000, Mulberry had 21 fully operational stores.

Mulberry’s current creative director is Emma Hill. Designers

Mulberry’s designer Emma Hill started with the company in November 2008. He first collection was introduced in Spring 2009. Emma is a graduate of Ravensbourne and was living in New York 13 years prior to taking her new position with Mulberry. She has assisted in create handbags for companies including: Calvin Klein, Marc Jacobs and The Gap.
